SEO Made Simple: How I Got My Blog Noticed by Google (Without Being an Expert)

Posted on: June 16, 2025

I used to think SEO was only for tech geeks or big brands. Words like “keywords,” “backlinks,” and “crawl budget” honestly gave me a headache.

But when my blog wasn’t getting traffic—despite writing consistently—I knew something had to change.

This post is everything I wish someone told me earlier: a simple, real-world guide to getting found on Google without learning code or paying for tools.

🧭 What Is SEO (and Why Should You Care)?

SEO = Search Engine Optimization. It’s the process of helping your blog or website show up when someone searches for something on Google.

Let’s say you write a post about “Easy smoothie recipes.” If you do SEO right, your blog could show up when someone types that exact phrase into Google. That’s how organic (free) traffic happens.

📌 The 5 Basics I Focused On (No Tech Skills Needed)

1. Write for Humans First, Google Second

I stopped stuffing keywords and started writing naturally. If your post helps solve a real problem (and uses real language), Google will understand it. I always ask myself: “Would I click on this if I saw it in search?”

2. Use Simple, Searchable Titles

Instead of “My Thoughts on Breakfast Ideas,” I started using titles like “5 Healthy Breakfast Ideas You Can Make in 10 Minutes.”

Tip: Use Google auto-suggest. Type your blog topic into Google and see what people are actually searching for.

3. Add Meta Descriptions (Yes, They Matter)

In Blogger, there's a section called “Search Description” for each post. I write a 1–2 sentence summary that’s clear, specific, and makes people curious. This is what shows up under your blog link in Google search results.

4. Use Headers (H2, H3) to Structure Your Posts

Break your content into sections using headers. It helps both humans and Google understand your blog's structure.

Example:

  • <h2> – Main topics (like “How to Start a Blog”)
  • <h3> – Sub-topics (like “Pick a Blogging Platform”)

5. Link Internally

Whenever I mention something I’ve already written about, I link to it. This helps readers stay on my blog longer and tells Google that my site is organized.

Example: “If you haven’t claimed your Google Business listing yet, here’s how I did it.”

🚧 Common SEO Mistakes I Made (and Fixed)

  • ❌ Writing vague titles like “Update” or “New Post”
  • ❌ Ignoring mobile-friendliness (most people read blogs on phones!)
  • ❌ Forgetting to submit my sitemap in Search Console
  • ❌ Blocking useful pages with my robots.txt

Fixing these helped me go from 0 to 400+ visits/month—without spending anything.

🔍 SEO Tools I Use (All Free)

📈 What Happened After 30 Days?

✔️ Google indexed more of my posts
✔️ My site showed up for real search terms
✔️ I started getting traffic without sharing every post manually

🙌 Final Thoughts

You don’t need to learn complex SEO or chase algorithms. Just write content that’s helpful, searchable, and cleanly structured — and let Google do the rest.

SEO isn’t about tricks. It’s about clarity.
